Firefly Tween Phone

Firefly just announced a phone targeted for kids whose parents want them to have a mobile for emergencies but want to have a little (or TOTAL) control over who they can call.

The Firefly phone is a mere 2 ounces and flashes like a firefly when the phone is in use. Up to 20 numbers can be programmed into the address book and there's no regular keypad so unauthorized numbers can't be dialed. There are speed dials for the parents and 911. The phone can even be set not to accept incoming calls from numbers that aren't in the address book.

There are some kid-friendly touches too. There are seven colors for backlighting and five different background animations. Also some optional accessories like a glow-in-the-dark skin, four translucent colored shells, or a wristlet carrying case.

The GSM phone has an impressive 6 hours of talk time and 205 hours standby. It will retail for $99.95. It's only available in the SE U.S. through SunCom at the moment, but will be available on multiple networks soon, as well as through a pre-paid service through Target.

Parents are getting more protective nowadays, huh? This phone is seriously weird! But you know what's scary? I may consider getting it for my kid when I do have one in the future, but that's if they sell it in Singapore. I mean, how cool is it? Then my kid can go to school and show off to his friends, "Eh! Look! My mummy got a handphone for me! You don't have! Nyeh-nyeh! Your mummy never get handphone for you, she don't love you!"

Then my kid will be sent to the Principal's office and get a talking-to from him/her because of his behaviour, and he will come home crying to me that the school bullied him. So, being the ever-protective Mother that I've become, I'll raise a lawsuit against the school, and, being the billionaire that I am (Heck! I was rich enough to buy my underage kid a working HANDPHONE!), I'll win the suit with the best lawyer in town, hereby being known as the Bitch Mother with the Bratty Kid.

Haha... Don't you just love today's technology? *grinz*
